Writing informative articles is very important if you’re trying to gain Backlinks, and rank for keywords. Though a majority of blog posts are below 500, and even 300 words.
When I first started writing I was the very same. I simply could Not form 1,000 Word Articles, and had trouble putting thoughts to paper (Or in my case–Putting thoughts to Blogs).
But I was able to eventually overcome that, and start writing Long, Well-Researched, posts with amazing SEO. Once that happened I started to Rank higher on Google, and build Backlinks.

The longer, and more researched the Article the more likely you are to have other Bloggers link to you. Building a Backlink for your blog.

Advantage 2: Becoming A Credible, and Respected Source In Your Industry.
The most credible/respected sources have either been in their industry for decades, or became credible because of their informative, trusted information.
If you ever want to be a credible source you only have to do 2 things: Tell the truth, and be informative.

Longer Articles bring you better traffic. Overtime they end up Ranking Higher than shorter Articles.

Don’t try writing 1,000 word posts until you’ve developed the skills to do so. What do I mean? Simple. The ability to write intricate posts is a learned skill, that develops over time.
Don’t feel bad if your first 10 posts are only 200-500 words. However I won’t lie to you… those posts will bring down your average, and won’t have good SEO. So technically they bring down your SEO…
That’s why i recommend to many bloggers that they start trashing their first blogs–Their Starter blogs if you will. Essentially I believe that before you start the blog of your Dreams you should start a temporary blog which you can use to learn the system, and improve your writing abilities.
By the time your starter blog is 2 months old, and you’ve done some research you should be able to move on, and start a better blog.
A better blog in which you don’t make all the same mistakes, and have a better idea of Site Design, SEO, Marketing, and everything like that.

Step 2: Research
Informative articles need to be researched. I think that before you start writing your article you need to read at least 3-5 other articles on the same subject from trusted sources.
If you want to thoroughly research your subject I suggest you do these 5 Simple Things while reading those 3-5 articles:
1. Take Notes.
It is as it says. When your Reading an article have out a little piece of paper, and write down whatever you find interesting so that you can mention it in your article. (Be sure to also note the source so that you can link to them later)
2. No Distractions.
Make sure that when you are researching that there are no distractions in your area. That way you can fully comprehend everything you read.
3. Write Immediately After Research.
That way you can completely remember to the best of your ability everything you just researched so that you may write a fuller, longer, better article.
4. Be Sure To Understand What You Read, If Not Stop, And Find Something Else.
I can read Trigonometry all day–But I don’t understand it, and can not write a paper about it. If you find yourself unable to understand what you’re reading than Stop, and find a different subject. There’s no shame in it, intact feel happy about it.
If you were to write a Post on something you don’t fully understand you may accidentally spread false information, which has a plethora of bad side effects.
5. Leave Links.
The most credible sources nowadays leave links to prove themselves right incase the reader wants to do some digging themselves. Whenever possible be sure to leave a link to your source.
It doesn’t matter if the links are compiled on the bottom of the article, or embedded in Text throughout it.
Step 3: Improvements
I myself don’t write these long articles in one shot. I write a rough draft which is maybe 500-750 words, and then go back, and improve on it.
While I’m improving I tend to add more sources, a couple hundred (Or thousand) new words, and fix any mistakes I might have made.
So if your having a hard time writing why not do the same? Write your article, and then just go back, and improve it.
It has worked Wonders on my Blog. Not only in the sense that my Articles have gotten longer, but I’ve been fixing several typos, and SEO mistakes I never knew I was making before!
If you aren’t going to go back, and improve your posts you should at least read over them before you Publish. Something that many Bloggers forget to do when writing informative articles.
